RESEARCH ACTIVITY

Research Interests

The research group of the Laboratory of Applied and Computational Biocatalysis is active in the field since about twenty years ago. In the last years it has focused its attention to the biocatalysis in non conventionalmedia, especially in organic solvent, in solvent free systems and more recently in solid phase (polymer supported) chemistry. The research efforts have been focused on the development of specific methods for the control of water activity, on the study of enzyme selectivity and stability in the different reaction media, on enzyme immobilization on solid supports.

The approach generally used in the research activity of the group is rational, mainly based on the support of computational models and on the multivariate analysis of problem variables.

In the last years the group has expanded its interests to the polymer chemistry, in particular on the development of novel specific resins, either for enzyme immobilisation and solid phase synthesis, in collaboration with Resindion – Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation.

The group took part in many different projects, together with academic and industrial partners and many collaborations are still active.

Actual research interests are:

  • Biocatalysis in conventional and non conventional media

  • Solid phase chemistry

  • Development and optimisation of polymers for solid phase chemistry and enzyme immobilisation

  • Development of computational models for the rationalisation and prediction of enzyme and reaction system properties
